May Bike Month Events in Conway

Celebrate May Bike Month in Conway! 
Attention Conway Cyclists: It’s that time of year again! The weather is beautiful, summer’s almost here; what better way to celebrate than in the saddle? Join us for the following community events:

  • The Bike Month Challenge. Make sure you are on Strava, join the Strava Group/Club: CAB (Conway Advocates for Bicycling), and log all your rides. You will be entered into a weekly contest for prizes.  The more rides you take each week (starting Wednesday May 1), the more chances you have to win! Check the CAB Strava Group and the Ride Facebook page for updates and winners. Sponsored by CAB and The Ride bike shop.
  • May 4, Saturday, Tour De Toad. Sponsored by Literacy Action of Central Arkansas, this annual event has bike routes/distances for all levels. To register go to: https://www.bikereg.com/tour-de-toad
  • May 5, Sunday: Ugly Gnome MTB Race. To register go to: https://www.bikereg.com/the-ugly-gnome
  • May 5, National Ride a Bike Day: Special CAB group ride.  We will have a group ride for everyone, easy pace, to the Tech Park, Stanley Russ Rd., to see the Ugly Gnome MTB race. Start at The Ride bike shop, 2100 Meadowlake Rd. at 9 a.m.
  • May 12th, Sunday, CycloFemme on Mother’s Day. Tara Leamon leads this female-only ride.  Leave from The Ride bike shop, 2100 Meadowlake Rd at 1 p.m. for a 20 mile ride.
  • May 13th and 20th, Mondays, Bike Tune-up Days at the Conway Cycling Project, 1820 Old Morrilton Hwy. 11:30 – 1p.m.  Bring your bike and we will help you do repairs. Bike donations are welcome. Come check out the new CCP facility! Snacks served.
  • May 13-17, Bike to Work (and after work) Week.  See how many days you can ride to and from work or school; if you are retired or work from home, run your errands by bike this week.
    • Monday May 13th, special invitation to all City of Conway Officials and Staff to join us for a group ride around town!  We will use Reddin’s Route and Conway’s trail system.  We leave from the McGee center, 3800 College Ave at 6 p.m. Join us for an easy fun ride around town after work.     
    • Wednesday May 15th, all CAB group rides will start and finish at the Rogue Roundabout, 6 p.m., 804 Chestnut Street.  Join us afterwards for a “Radler” (grapefruit and beer drink developed by and for cyclists) and a bite to eat! 
    • Friday, May 17th, Bike to Work day, CAB provides breakfast for all cyclists at Simon Park in downtown Conway. There will be a group ride leaving at 7:30 a.m. from behind the Dave Ward Walmart; we follow Tucker Creek trail, go through UCA, through old Conway and end at Simon park downtown.  Breakfast at 8 a.m. for anyone on a bike!
  • May 18, Saturday, Smart Cycling Class, 1-4:30 p.m. First United Methodist church, 1610 Prince St. This course is designed to give beginning as well as more experienced cyclists the training they need to ride safely and legally in traffic and on trails. The course covers bicycle safety checks, fixing a flat, on-bike skills, riding in traffic, and crash avoidance techniques. It also includes a free student manual.   • May 19, Sunday, Movie Day: Relentless Ride: The Arkansas High Country Race, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.  At The Max Event Venue, 1007 Spencer St.. Free and open to the public.
  • CAB Group Rides: Every Monday and Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. from the McGee center, north parking lot. We have four levels: A group averages 18-20+ mph, B group averages 15-17 mph, C group averages 13-15 mph, and D group averages 10-12 mph.  There is a group for everyone; come out and join us!  Helmets required.
